Today, Tuesday 15 January 2008, the Kenyan Members of Parliament elected Kenneth Marende (ODM) as the speaker of the 10th Parliament. This is a fantastic triumph of ODM over Kibaki and underlines how difficult it will be for the Kibaki to govern after the elections that we believe he stole.

Marende, a 52-year-old lawyer received 105 votes, to 101 for Kibaki’s candidate, Ole Kaparo. While ODM had the most seats in parliament, neither party had the two-thirds majority needed to elect the speaker in a first round vote. Results of voting for the speaker

This should remind all of us that indeed democracy can work and that it is not alien to our land and our people,” Marende said So Who is Kenneth Marende? Marende was born on January 7, 1956.
